Alright, so I'm sitting here having a conversation with someone about something, and all of the sudden out of nowhere abortion come up. So we started talking about it and I expressed my position that "I am not anyone that needs to be telling anyone else what to do." Which got me thinking, who the fuck are these people to tell others what to do? People voting against full nudity at strip clubs. People voting against abortion. People telling others not to smoke cigarettes. People telling other people to straighten up and fly right. People telling other people to "get a haircut and get a real job". People telling ... well, you get the point. <br />Who do these people think they are that they can sit there.....
..... and tell me, you, or anyone else what to do? I'm a free American adult. I pay taxes, own my own home, two cars. support a family, and have a few dogs. I do pretty well for myself and my family. I respect those aroudn me and don't bother anyone. <br />So why is it that I have to be told not to have an abortion, not to smoke cigs, not to do drugs, or a billion other things that you and I aren't allowed to do. Things that on the surface are explained away as good things because it apparently hurts society as a whole. <br />Dig a little deeper. When you smoke a cigarette, it only hurts you. NO really, it does only hurt you. You are the one inhaling the smoke. If the people around you are so concerned about it then they should stop breathing, or not be around you. They have that choice (unless you'rfe like me and keep people shackled to you). When you smoke some grass, you're the one getting high and according to biased reports damaging your brain (which by the way, the effects go away after a while FYI). I could go on about it. <br />My point is that it really really pisses me off that people will force their choice on you, even if what you choose dosen't even impede their choice. Do you like totally naked women? I do. Now, if a place wants to open up in town that has totally naked women shooting ping pong balls out of their who-ha's and I want to see it, why should people who don't want to see it, and would never EVER go to see it have any say whatsoever in whether or not a place like this should exist? They shouldn't. If you never ever smoked any mary jane in your life, and never planned on it, why in the hell would you be so against it? Possibly because you feel like you're missing out on something, but more likely you feel like a big bad man excercising your power over the minority. But in reality you're just a sheep. A sheep following the herd. Because without that herd you'd have no power. And that is what it really amounts to. People forcing their will and/or morality on others who are not sheep, and prefer to not be told what to do, or tell others what to do. This is America, and people like to say that the Majority Rules, Love it or Leave it, etc... Well, you know what. Fuck you. This is America, land of the free. Our ancestors fought for us to be able to do as we please (reasonably) and to express our opinions as we please, not for us to feel big bad and powerful and tell people what to do. NOt to force our morals on others. They fought and died, so that we could beleive how we want to beleive, do as we feel (reasonably) without impinging on others. <br />People, the majority of Americans have lost their way. One side telling the other side what to do and trying to legislate their opinions and beleifs on other people. <br />Here's what I propose as a solution to this. Next time you read, hear, or see a new law being proposed, email me. Email/write/phone your senator and congressperson and tell them to oppose the new law. Tell them to quit making new laws. Tell them that just because they aren't making new laws that they aren't doing their job. And that you'd be fine with their inaction. You see, by them not acting, or curbing the actual lawmaking they would still be doing their job, which is not legislating and telling people what to do, but representing the people. All of the people. They were put in office by the majority, but that dosen't mean that they are only supposed to look out for the majority. They are supposed to look out for EVERYONE. Not just the 51% that put them there. <br /><br />This is just my two cents and I hope it makes you think about how you can make a positive change in our country, and how you can be a better american by having an opinion, and only sharing it with people in meaningful discussion, rather than by lobbying your elected officials.
